It's not "if", it's "when!" Your potential customers are flocking to the Web in unprecedented numbers. It's estimated there are more than 112 million people dialed in, 62 million of whom are in the US alone, and the numbers are doubling every year! (IntelliQuest, February 1998.) More than a quarter of US adults have email addresses (Harris, January 1998), and another study came up with these statistics on the number of Americans using computers to access the Internet:
Business Week reported in February that 1998 would see almost $5 billion in Internet sales in 1998 - that's double last year - and will likely double again next year. It's hard to judge when it's the "right time." Whatever time you pick, though, it's not likely you'll be early by more than a few months. On the other hand, a totally new marketing channel is not to be rushed into. If you need time to examine your business strategy and develop a part in it for a website, then by all means do so (it's a good idea whether or not you're creating a website). As you consider the timing for your website, here's more to help you decide. |
